Hello everyone,
Relay for Life has become a national event (probably, eventually, an international event) that raises money to support cancer research. There are campus wide and community competitions all over the US. Our local effort is created by many teams, both on campus and within the city of Commerce, who compete against one another to raise money for this worthy cause as most people, in the world, have been touched by cancer in some way.

Where we are now: By going to the website below you can join the India Student Association team. Members on our team need to work to obtain donations for our team but for a team member to get a free t-shirt, must raise $100. Our team goal is $1000 so we need 10 members.

And you can also go to the website below and donate to the India Student Association and help us reach our team goal.

To join our team, once you get to the website, you can click “join a team” and you will be prompted to put in the name of the team. You will put in India_student_association

To donate to our team, once you get to the website, you can click “donate to a team”, and you will be prompted to put in the name of the team. You will put in India_student_association

In past years the India Student Association has won numerous awards for their participation in Relay for Life. We have won:

Most money raised online by an individual
Best onsite fundraiser
Most money raised online by an organization
Can’t remember the other one

Why do they call it relay? Because on April 16th, from 7 pm. until 7 a.m. the next morning, all teams will gather on a location very close to campus, last year it was close to Berry Hall. There will be many festivities such as food selling, we can sell food, do mahendi (a big winner for us in the past), whatever. There will be large oval track mapped out and the rule is that each team must have one team member on the track all night long (although often there are lots of people on the track and sometimes whole groups of friends walk together). There will be lots of activities and fun and music all night long. You’ll see tents set up, barbecue grills cooking, drinks being sold, and many, many games being played. At the same time, all teams will be involved with whatever they wish to raise money which also goes to cancer research.

Won’t you please consider being a team member? Will you please consider donating? If possible, several of you could go together and donate just $5 each, give the cash to someone who has a credit card and let them donate the money electronically for you.

Right now we don’t look so good on the Relay for Life website and we do, after all, have a reputation to uphold. J Please join in being a part of the Relay for Life for the India Student Association.

If you do nothing, at least go to the website anyway and look at how the listing for all organizations and donors look. Once you see it, you might decide to ACT for ISA! J

Hope to wake up in the morning, check the website for relay for life, and find we have a full team roster and money that has been donated!

Diane
