Article I. Name: This organization shall be known as the Indian Students Association of Texas A&M University-Commerce. Article II. Objective:The objectives of this organization shall be to promote and foster a better understanding of Indian Culture and Heritage among the members of the association , students , faculty and staff , and other employees of A&M-Commerce , and the local community. Article III. Activities of ISA:Each semester ISA activities will generally include a welcome party plus two other activities. During the spring semester, ISA, in addition to the welcome party also participates in the Multicultural Festival. Article IV. Membership:All A&M-Commerce students and faculty are eligible to be members of ISA once their membership dues have been paid. Article V. Dues:The Executive Board determines annual dues which normally do not exceed $20 per year. Only paid members are eligible to vote on ISA issues. Membership dues provide a major source of income for ISA, without which ISA cannot maintain its normal activities. Article VI. Forming The Executive Board For The Coming Year:Each year in April several emails will be posted to the Indian listserver asking for persons who are interested in serving ISA in an official capacity for the coming year to come forward. These persons will comprise the new Executive Board. Article VII. Officers, Duties, Executive Board:ISA officers will be: President , Vice-President,, Treasurer, Secretary, Webmaster and Secretaries of Cultural Events, Sports Events and Events Coordinators. If there are sufficient volunteers, there may be more than one Vice-President. Previous board members will become ISA Committee Advisors. The year's previous Executive Board members will select a person who has experience working with ISA on campus to be the President for the coming year. The previous board members will also appoint the new volunteers to positions of responsibility for the coming year. The Executive Board members will act as a team although the President may be required to sign official papers; the Vice-President(s) may act for the President in his/her absence; the Treasurer will have the check book , coordinate dues collection , receive bank statements and balance the checkbook , and pay bills; the Secretary will keep minutes of each meeting; the Webmaster will maintain the ISA website. Other officers will serve as their job titles reflect. The Executive Board is the administrative body of the association. It may form sub-committees as needed and will make decisions regarding activities or events to be held during the year. Article VIII. ISA Advisor and their Duties:The ISA Advisor must be a full-time Texas A&M-Commerce employee and serves by the request of ISA. The Advisor must be familiar with the activities of the organization and be knowledgeable about the mission of ISA and must regularly attend ISA meetings. The Advisor must be available to ISA members for advice and consultation regarding the organization and assist members in developing realistic goals for the year. The Advisor must facilitate opportunities for ISA members to exercise initiative and judgment when coordinating activities. The ISA Advisor must coordinate financial transactions with the Student Organization Finance Center (SOFC) and must be aware of the organization's financial status. The ISA Advisor must be aware of the University Student Rules and other institutional guidelines that outline acceptable student behavior and activities. The Advisor must report all rule violations or potential violations to the appropriate university official. |
